A power surge after a storm knocks out the TV and the fridge at the same time. The repairs come to nearly twenty thousand baht, even though the house itself wasn't damaged at all.
Can home insurance that costs under a thousand baht help with something like this, and how much cover does it give the house and its contents?
Viriyah 999 home fire insurance: who is it for and how much does it cover?
In short: Viriyah Insurance's 999 residential fire insurance plan suits homeowners who want cover for both the house and its contents for under a thousand baht. It covers the house for THB 950,000 if it is a concrete building, THB 350,000 if it is half concrete, half timber, and THB 150,000 if it is all timber, plus THB 50,000 for contents and THB 20,000 for electrical appliances. The premium is from THB 999 per year (as at 11 October 2026). The actual sum insured depends on what the house is built of.

How much is the premium for Viriyah 999 home insurance?
The premium is from THB 999 per year, including tax and stamp duty (as at 11 October 2026). Which plan you get depends on what the house is built of, which changes the sum insured for the house. The actual premium is as stated in the quote and subject to the insurer's underwriting decision.
Worked example: if half the house burns down, how much do you get for temporary accommodation?
Say a concrete house suffers fire damage of more than 50%, and you have to rent somewhere to stay for 45 days at THB 1,200 a night
- Rent the plan pays per day: up to THB 1,000; you pay the extra THB 200 a day yourself
- 45 days × 1,000 = THB 45,000, which is within the THB 50,000 cap, so you get THB 45,000
- If you need to rent for 60 days: 60 × 1,000 = THB 60,000, but the cap for damage over 50% is THB 50,000
This is an illustration. The actual payout depends on the insurer's claim assessment. The simple rule: rent has both a daily cap and a total cap.
Who is Viriyah 999 home insurance for?
- Homeowners who want cover for both the house and its contents for under a thousand baht
- Homes with many electrical appliances, where you worry about power surges or short circuits
- All-timber houses, which many plans don't accept; this one has Plan 3 for all-timber houses
- Homeowners whose house's construction value is within the plan's sum insured
Who should not buy this plan yet?
- Homes that would cost more than THB 950,000 to rebuild, where you want a sum insured matching the real value: see Thaivivat home and condominium insurance, sum insured THB 1–5 million
- Homes in areas that flood often: all natural disaster perils together are capped at THB 20,000
- People with high-value contents: contents are covered up to THB 50,000
- People who want burglary cover or liability cover towards neighbours: this plan's coverage table includes neither
- People who just want cover for the house at the lowest cost: see Viriyah Baan Un Jai home insurance, THB 500
Limits to check before you decide
- The sum insured for the house depends on what it is built of: THB 950,000 for concrete, 350,000 for half concrete, half timber, and 150,000 for all timber. Declare what your house is actually built of.
- All natural disaster perils together are capped at THB 20,000, including flood, windstorm and hail
- Contents are covered up to THB 50,000 in total on every plan
- Temporary accommodation rent depends on how badly the house is damaged: damage over 50% gets half the cap that applies to 100% damage
- Foundations are not covered: the sum insured for the house excludes the foundations and the land
