Highlights: separate plans by type of station and by oil or gas storage site, with a limit of liability of THB 1,000,000–5,000,000
It is time to renew the Type 3 controlled business licence for your petrol station or gas shop, and you need liability insurance to go with it, but you are not sure which plan your business falls under or what limit is enough.
Bangkok Insurance's service station insurance divides its plans clearly by type of business, covering fuel oil, LPG and NGV. Choose the plan that matches your licence first, then look at the limit.
Service station insurance: who is it for and how much does it cost?
In short: Bangkok Insurance's service station insurance suits operators of fuel oil service stations, LPG stations or shops and NGV stations that apply using a Type 3 controlled business licence. It covers liability as required by law, with a limit of liability of THB 1,000,000–5,000,000 per accident depending on the plan. Premiums start at THB 2,400 per year (LPG service station, data as at 28 October 2026, including stamp duty and tax). The actual premium depends on the type of business and the plan you choose.
What does service station insurance cover?

Service station insurance: roughly how much is the premium?
Annual premiums, including stamp duty and tax. Data as at 28 October 2026
Fuel oil (Oil)
| Type of business | Limit of liability | Starting premium (THB per year) |
|---|---|---|
| Plan 1: Fuel oil storage facility, category 3 | 1,500,000 | 2,700 |
| Plan 2: Fuel service station, Type A | 2,000,000 | 3,000 |
| Plan 3: Fuel service station, Type B | 2,000,000 | 3,000 |
| Plan 4: Fuel service station, Type C, category 2 | 1,000,000 | 3,200 |
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)
| Type of business | Limit of liability | Starting premium (THB per year) |
|---|---|---|
| Plan 1: LPG service station | 2,000,000 | 2,400 |
| Plan 2: LPG storage facility, user premises type, category 3 (group A: storing up to 500,000 litres) | 1,500,000 | 3,800 |
| Plan 3: LPG retail shop, category 2 (group A: not in a shophouse or row house) | 1,000,000 | 4,300 |
| Plan 4: LPG retail shop, category 2 (group B: in a shophouse or row house) | 1,500,000 | 4,300 |
| Plan 5: LPG filling plant | 2,000,000 | 4,800 |
Natural gas (NGV)
| Type of business | Limit of liability | Starting premium (THB per year) |
|---|---|---|
| Plan 1: Natural gas user premises | 1,000,000 | 3,800 |
| Plan 2: Natural gas service station | 5,000,000 | 7,500 |
Every figure is a starting premium. The actual premium depends on the type of business on your licence, the plan you choose and the insurer's underwriting decision. The amount you actually pay is the one on your quote.
A worked example to illustrate
A station with both Type A fuel oil and LPG dispensers
If the licence is split into 2 types of business and you need separate insurance for each type (hypothetical example)
3,000 + 2,400 = THB 5,400 per year
How does a gas shop in a shophouse differ from one that is not?
The premium is the same at THB 4,300 but the limits differ. A shop in a shophouse (group B) gets a limit of THB 1,500,000, while a shop not in a shophouse (group A) gets THB 1,000,000.
As a rule of thumb, choose the plan from the type and category stated on your licence, not from the lowest premium
Who is service station insurance for?
- Owners of Type A, Type B and Type C (category 2) fuel service stations
- Owners of LPG service stations, retail shops or filling plants
- Owners of NGV service stations or businesses that use natural gas
- People who need a policy to go with an application for, or renewal of, a Type 3 controlled business licence
Who should not buy this plan yet?
Service stations in the 3 southern border provinces
This plan does not accept them
Businesses that do not apply using a Type 3 controlled business licence
This plan uses a Type 3 licence to apply, for both new policies and renewals
People who want cover for their own building, dispensers or fuel stock
This plan covers legal liability to other people. For your business's own property, look at property insurance such as SME Total insurance
People who want a higher liability limit than the plans offer
The highest limit in the table is THB 5,000,000, for NGV stations
What limitations should you check before deciding?
1) The per-person limit is up to THB 200,000 per person
Items 1–2 combined pay no more than THB 200,000 per person, even if the per-accident limit is higher
2) The total per-accident limit has a ceiling
Items 1–3 combined cannot exceed the plan's limit of liability. If a single incident has several injured parties, the business is liable for anything above the limit.
3) You must choose a plan that matches your type of business
If the type of business you declare does not match your licence, it may affect how the policy can be used and how claims are assessed
4) The 3 southern border provinces are not accepted

Frequently asked questions
Which plan does a small community petrol station fall under?
It depends on the type and category stated on your licence. For example, a Type C, category 2 fuel service station uses plan 4 in the fuel oil section. You can send a photo of your licence for our team to check.
Can I use this policy to apply for a licence renewal?
This plan is designed to give the cover required by law, and uses a Type 3 licence to apply for both new policies and renewals. The documents the receiving authority needs are as that authority specifies.
If I have both a petrol station and a gas shop, can they go on one policy?
The premiums in the table are set by type of business. Send all your licences and our team will check with the insurer whether they need separate policies or can be combined.
If a customer is injured at the station, does this insurance pay?
It depends on whether it is the business's legal liability and falls within the policy's cover. The limit is up to THB 200,000 per person. To understand third-party liability for shops in general, see Third-party liability insurance for shops
