V-Motor Add On insurance for travel costs while your car is being repaired, from THB 500
Premium data as of 31 August 2026 · compiled by Prakanthai.com
Underwritten by Viriyah Insurance Public Company Limited
Premiums from THB 500 per year (Plan 1) and THB 750 per year (Plan 2), incl. tax
Highlight: after a collision, if your car is in repair for more than 12 hours, you receive travel compensation of THB 2,000 or 3,000 per incident, even if you are at fault
Your car is rear-ended at a red light and spends ten days in the garage. Class 1 insurance repairs it under its conditions, but you have to pay yourself for the taxi fares to work and for ferrying the children every day, which adds up to several thousand baht. And if you are the one at fault, you cannot claim loss-of-use compensation from the other party either.
An add-on costing THB 500–750 per year: how much does it really help with travel costs while your car is being repaired?
Who is V-Motor Add On travel cost insurance for, and how much does it cost?
In short: Viriyah Insurance's V-Motor Add On is supplementary accident insurance for owners of private cars with up to 7 seats who already have compulsory motor insurance (CMI) and voluntary car insurance. It pays travel compensation of THB 2,000 or 3,000 per incident when your car collides with a land vehicle and is in repair for more than 12 hours, up to 5 times per year, together with accident cover of THB 50,000 per person for the people in the car. Premiums start at THB 500 per year (as of 31 August 2026).
What does V-Motor Add On cover?
| Coverage | Plan 1 | Plan 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Travel compensation while your car is being repaired | THB 2,000 per claim | THB 3,000 per accident |
| Maximum number of claims | 5 claims per policy year | 5 claims per policy year |
| Maximum total compensation (if all 5 incidents meet the conditions) | THB 10,000 per year | THB 15,000 per year |
| Death, dismemberment, loss of sight or total permanent disability from a car accident, for unnamed drivers and passengers | THB 50,000 per person | THB 50,000 per person |
| Premium incl. tax | THB 500 per year | THB 750 per year |
Travel compensation is paid whether the driver is not at fault, at fault, both parties were negligent, or fault cannot be established. It is paid to the insured and is not split among the passengers.
How much does V-Motor Add On cost, and which plan should you choose?
Premiums start from THB 500 per year (as of 31 August 2026). The premium is per plan, for 1 year of cover and 1 car per policy. Underwriting follows the insurer's criteria on the date you apply.
Worked example: your car is repaired after 1 collision this year
- Plan 1: you pay a premium of THB 500 and receive compensation of THB 2,000. The difference is 2,000 − 500 = THB 1,500
- Plan 2: you pay a premium of THB 750 and receive compensation of THB 3,000. The difference is 3,000 − 750 = THB 2,250
- Plan 2 costs THB 250 more per year than Plan 1, but pays THB 1,000 more in compensation each time
This is an illustration only and applies when the incident meets the policy conditions. If there is no collision needing repair all year, this compensation is not paid. As a simple rule: if you have only one car and use it every day, Plan 2 is better value; if you have a spare car or can get around another way, Plan 1 is enough.
Who is V-Motor Add On for?
- Families with only one main car, used every day to get to work or to drop off and pick up the children
- People who already have Class 1 or 2+ insurance but no cover for travel costs while the car is being repaired
- People who drive in congested city traffic and are often at risk of being clipped or hit by other vehicles
- People who want additional accident cover for passengers without naming them
Who should not buy this plan yet?
- People who don't yet have voluntary motor insurance. The sales document states that the car must have CMI and voluntary insurance. This plan does not pay for repairs to the car, so you should take out the main insurance first.
- People worried about breakdowns, floods, fire or a lost car. The travel compensation is tied to a collision with a land vehicle, so these events do not meet the conditions.
- People who often scrape pillars, walls or things in the car park. A collision with an object that is not a vehicle does not meet the travel cost conditions.
- Cars used commercially, or cars with more than 7 seats. Only private cars with up to 7 seats are accepted.
- People who want medical expenses cover for accidents. The THB 50,000 limit is for death, dismemberment or disability, not for treatment.
Limits to check before you decide
- The repair must take more than 12 hours. The vehicle intake slip or repair order showing the dates and times in and out is used as evidence.
- It must be a collision with a land vehicle. Not every case of a car going in for repair qualifies.
- Paid up to 5 times per policy year, counting all cases: not at fault, at fault and both parties negligent.
- The compensation is a fixed amount per incident. It is not calculated by the number of days the car is in the garage. A 2-day repair and a 20-day repair pay the same.
- You can buy it for 1 car per policy, and the applicant must be the owner or keeper of the car.
- Illness is not covered. The cover for people in the car applies to car accidents only.
If the other party is at fault, you can still claim loss-of-use compensation from them as another route. Read the difference in Loss-of-use compensation vs V-Motor Add On: who pays your travel costs while your car is being repaired? and Claiming loss-of-use compensation

Frequently asked questions
If your main car insurance is with another insurer, can you buy V-Motor Add On?
Yes. The sales document states that voluntary motor insurance can be with any insurer, but the applicant and the car must still meet Viriyah Insurance's underwriting criteria.
Do you still get the travel compensation if you are at fault?
Yes. The product information says it pays where you are not at fault, at fault, both parties were negligent, or fault cannot be established, provided it is a collision with a land vehicle and the repair takes more than 12 hours.
If your car goes to the dealer for a paint repair after scraping a pillar, do you get paid?
No. It does not meet the travel cost conditions, because it must be a collision with a land vehicle.
Does a 15-day repair pay more than a 2-day repair?
No. The compensation is a fixed amount per incident, THB 2,000 or 3,000 depending on the plan, and is not calculated per day.
Do I need a medical check-up before applying?
Viriyah Insurance's information says no health check is needed, but the applicant must give accurate and complete information.
What documents do I need to prepare for a claim?
The incident report receipt or claim form from your main car insurance, the vehicle intake slip and repair order showing the dates and times in and out of the garage, the V-Motor Add On policy schedule page and identity documents. The insurer may ask for more documents depending on the incident.
Who approves claims: Prakanthai.com or Viriyah?
