Premium data as of 15 October 2026 · compiled by Prakanthai.com

Underwritten by Bangkok Insurance Public Company Limited
Premiums from THB 1,500–6,500 per drone per year, incl. stamp duty and tax
Highlight: insurance for photography drones weighing up to 25 kg, any make, with third-party liability of THB 1,000,000, and plans that cover the drone itself up to its purchase price

You fly a drone to shoot a wedding or a mountain view. One gust of wind and the drone crashes onto someone else's roof, or falls into the water and is lost completely. The damage is both yours and other people's.

Bangkok Insurance's photography drone insurance has 4 plans. Which plan covers the drone itself, which covers liability only, and how much is the premium?

Bangkok Insurance photography drone insurance: who is it for and how much does it cost?

In short: Bangkok Insurance's photography drone insurance suits owners of drones weighing no more than 25 kilograms and no more than 5 years old who fly in Thailand. Every plan covers third-party liability, including legal defence costs, of up to THB 1,000,000. Plans 3 and 4 cover the drone itself against accidents at 100% of the purchase price (up to THB 30,000 and THB 70,000 respectively). Premiums start at THB 1,500 per year per drone (data as at 15 Oct 2026). The actual premium depends on the plan and the drone's age.

What does photography drone insurance cover?

PlanDamage to the droneThird-party liability
Plan 1Not coveredTHB 1,000,000
Plan 2Not coveredTHB 1,000,000
Plan 3100% of the purchase price (purchase price up to THB 30,000)THB 1,000,000
Plan 4100% of the purchase price (purchase price up to THB 70,000)THB 1,000,000

Third-party liability covers death, disability, injury, property damage and legal defence costs combined, over the whole period of insurance. Legal defence costs need the insurer's prior written consent. Plans 3 and 4 extend cover to cameras and equipment as specified in the policy.

Photography drone insurance: how much is the premium?

PlanNew drones, up to 3 years oldDrones aged 3–5 years
Plan 11,5001,500
Plan 22,0002,000
Plan 33,9904,500
Plan 45,9906,500

Premium per drone per year, including stamp duty and VAT. Data as at 15 October 2026. The actual premium depends on the plan, the drone's age, the purchase price and the insurer's underwriting decision. A drone priced above the limits in the table must be considered by the insurer case by case.

Worked example: a drone bought for THB 28,000, 1 year old, that crashes in strong wind

  • Purchase price up to THB 30,000, Plan 3: premium THB 3,990 per year
  • The limit for the drone itself equals the purchase price = THB 28,000
  • For a drone up to 3 years old, the excess is THB 3,000 per incident
  • If the whole drone is lost or destroyed, you would receive about 28,000 − 3,000 = THB 25,000
  • If the same drone were 4 years old, the excess would be 10% of the drone's sum insured = THB 2,800, but the minimum is THB 3,000, so it would still be THB 3,000

This example is for illustration only. The amount actually paid depends on the damage assessment and the policy conditions.

Who is photography drone insurance for?

  • Photographers or content creators who fly drones in public places or near people's homes
  • Owners of drones priced at no more than THB 70,000 who want the drone itself covered (Plans 3–4)
  • Hobby pilots who want third-party liability cover at a low premium (Plan 1)
  • Businesses that use drones for photography, where the pilot is aged 20 or over

Who should not buy this plan yet?

  • Drones weighing more than 25 kilograms or more than 5 years old
  • Drones that have been damaged or claimed on before: the insurer does not accept them in any case
  • People who will fly the drone abroad: cover applies in Thailand only
  • Pilots under 18 (where the insured is an individual)
  • People who want liability insurance for a shop or premises: see third-party liability insurance instead

Limits to check before you decide

  1. Plans 1 and 2 do not cover the drone itself; they cover third-party liability only
  2. Excess on the drone itself: THB 3,000 per incident for drones up to 3 years old; for drones 3–6 years old, 10% of the drone's sum insured or a minimum of THB 3,000
  3. You must comply with the Ministry of Transport notification on piloting unmanned aircraft and with air navigation law
  4. Important exclusions include war, noise and pollution, chemicals or objects released from the drone, and damage to electronic data
  5. The liability limit of THB 1,000,000 is a combined limit for the whole year, not per incident

What do I need to send to find out the actual premium for this drone?

  2. A copy of the drone's purchase receipt
  3. A copy of the national ID card of every pilot
