Premiums from THB 8,521.48 per year, as shown on the product page. The actual amount is the one on the quote
Highlights: Class 3 insurance that names app-based passenger transport as the use of the car, matching vehicle type RY.18. It covers the other party and the people in your car

You have just signed up to drive for Grab in the saloon you already own. Your current Class 3 policy states private use. If you hit another car while carrying a passenger, a mismatch between how the car is used and the policy could become a dispute when you claim.

What does Class 3 insurance for an RY.18 car cover, how does it differ from Class 3 for a private car, and which cars qualify?

Class 3 RY.18 insurance for Grab/Bolt: who is it for, and how much is the premium?

In short: Deves Insurance's Class 3 RY.18 insurance suits drivers of saloon cars who carry passengers through an app such as Grab or Bolt and want the use of the car in the policy to match the real work. It covers third-party bodily injury and death up to THB 500,000 per person and third-party property up to THB 600,000 per accident, plus accident and medical cover for 5 people in the car at THB 50,000 each. It does not repair your own car. Premiums start at THB 8,521.48 per year (data as at 15 October 2026). The actual premium depends on the car and the insurer's assessment.

Roughly how much is Class 3 insurance for RY.18?

Premiums from THB 8,521.48 per year, as at 15 October 2026. This figure is not stated to include compulsory motor insurance (CMI); the quote will list it separately. The actual premium depends on the car, the registered owner, where the car is used and the insurer's underwriting decision.

Worked example: rear-ending another car while carrying a passenger

Suppose the repairs to the other party's car cost THB 120,000, a passenger in your car is injured and the medical costs are THB 18,000, and the repairs to your own car cost THB 45,000

  • The other party's car: within the THB 600,000 third-party property limit, so the insurer considers paying THB 120,000
  • Passenger: medical costs of THB 18,000, within the limit of THB 50,000 per person
  • Your own car: Class 3 does not repair it, so you pay THB 45,000 yourself
  • Average premium per month: 8,521.48 ÷ 12 = about THB 710

This example is for illustration only. The amount actually paid depends on the facts, on liability and on the insurer's claim assessment. A simple rule: Class 3 looks after other people and the people in your car, while you need to set money aside for your own car.

Who is Class 3 RY.18 insurance for?

  • Drivers of private saloons with black plates, owned by an individual, who take jobs through an app
  • Internal-combustion cars in standard condition, not modified
  • People who accept that Class 3 does not repair their own car, but want the other party and passengers looked after
  • People who want the vehicle use type in the policy to match the real work from day one

Who should not buy this plan yet?

  • EV owners: this plan does not accept electric vehicles. Hybrids and cars converted to another fuel must be sent in for checking first
  • People who want the insurance to repair their own car: see Class 1 RY.18 insurance for Grab/Bolt
  • Cars registered to a juristic person, metered taxis, or cars decorated to look like a taxi must be sent in for checking first and may not qualify
  • Cars used to deliver parcels or carry goods: this plan is for carrying passengers
  • Cars under a finance agreement where you haven't yet asked the finance company: the hire-purchase contract may set a minimum class of insurance

Limits to check before you decide

  1. Does not repair your car after a collision, and does not cover theft or fire
  2. Third-party property is covered up to THB 600,000 per accident. If you hit an expensive car or damage several pieces of property, you pay anything above that yourself
  3. Accident and medical cover for people in the car applies to 5 people, up to THB 50,000 each
  4. Buying insurance does not automatically make your car an RY.18 vehicle; the driver and car still have to meet the requirements of the Department of Land Transport (DLT) and the platform
  5. CMI is a separate policy. Check whether the quote already includes CMI, and whether your existing CMI can be used with the car's current vehicle type
  6. Sending your details or paying does not mean the insurer has agreed to provide cover. Cover starts on the date and time stated in the policy, once the insurer has approved it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I drive for Grab on a Class 3 policy for a private car?

It is not advisable. If the use of the car stated in the policy doesn't match how it is really used, this may lead to disputes or affect your right to cover when something happens. Send your current policy to our team to check first.

Can I buy this if my car isn't registered as RY.18 yet?

Send your details to our team to check first. Registration is a step handled by the Department of Land Transport (DLT); insurance is only one of the requirements.

Can a car under a finance agreement be insured?

Two things need checking: whether the insurer accepts the car, and whether the finance company allows this class of insurance. Ask the finance company to confirm first.

What do injured passengers receive?

Medical expenses and personal accident cover of up to THB 50,000 per person, for up to 5 people, subject to the policy conditions

What should you do first after an accident?

Help the injured, and call 1669 in an emergency. Notify the insurer on the number in your policy. Photograph the scene and every vehicle involved, and do not agree to pay compensation in the insurer's place before you have been advised.

Who approves claims: Prakanthai.com or Deves Insurance?

Underwriting and claim payments are decided by Deves Insurance. As the broker, Prakanthai.com helps check the details and coordinate for you.
