Key feature: short-term Class 3+ insurance: choose 90 or 180 days of cover, so you don't pay a full year's premium in one go
You have just bought a second-hand car and plan to sell it in a few months, or it is a second car you only use when going back to your home province. A full year of insurance feels like paying for more than you use, but having none is risky.
MSIG's short-term Class 3+ insurance comes in 90-day and 180-day versions. The questions are how much it covers, how it differs from annual 3+, and which cars the insurer does not accept.
MSIG short-term Class 3+ insurance, 90 or 180 days: who is it for, and how much is the premium?
In short: MSIG's short-term Class 3+ insurance suits owners of saloons, private passenger vehicles with up to 12 seats and pickups up to 4 tonnes, aged up to 25 years, who only want cover for 90 or 180 days. It covers the car for THB 100,000 in a collision with a land vehicle where the other party can be identified, and third-party property up to THB 1,000,000. Premiums start from THB 2,280 for 90 days (information as at 15 October 2026). The actual premium depends on the cover period, the excess option and the insurer's decision.
What does MSIG short-term Class 3+ insurance cover?

| Third-party bodily injury or death | THB 500,000 per person | Up to THB 20,000,000 per accident in total |
| Third-party property | 1,000,000 | – |

How much is the premium for MSIG short-term Class 3+ insurance?
Premium per policy. Data as at 15 October 2026
| Period of cover | With a THB 2,000 excess | No excess |
|---|---|---|
| 90 days | 2,280 | 2,470 |
| 180 days | 3,719 | 4,030 |
Every figure is a starting premium. The THB 2,000 excess applies only to a collision with a land vehicle where you are the party at fault. The actual premium depends on the cover period, the excess option and the insurer's underwriting decision. The total including tax, duty and CMI is as stated in the quote.
Worked example: wanting half a year of cover
- Buying 90 days twice with the excess option: 2,280 × 2 = THB 4,560
- Buying 180 days once with the excess option: THB 3,719, which saves 4,560 − 3,719 = THB 841
- Average per day: the 90-day option is 2,280 ÷ 90 = about THB 25, and the 180-day option is 3,719 ÷ 180 = about THB 21
- Choosing no excess on the 180-day option costs 4,030 − 3,719 = THB 311 more. If you are at fault in a collision just once, the THB 2,000 excess is already more than this difference.
This example is for illustration only. If you will use the car for more than half a year, ask for an annual 3+ quote to compare as well.
How is short-term different from annual 3+?
The principle of cover is the same: your own car is repaired after a collision with a land vehicle where the other party can be identified. The differences are the cover period and the premium per policy. It suits the period while you wait to sell the car or transfer ownership, or a car you use only from time to time.
Note the expiry date, because a short-term policy ends sooner than many people are used to. If you forget to renew, the car has no cover from the next day.

- Owners of older cars, up to 25 years old, who still want their own car's repairs paid when there is another party
