Your saloon is eight years old and you've had Class 1 all along, but this year's premium is still almost what it was when the car was new. Every figure is a starting premium. The actual premium depends on the model, the car's age and the insurer's underwriting decision. The quote is what counts.
Worked example: you hit a post yourself, with a repair bill of THB 25,000
Say a Toyota Vios aged 6 years falls in Group C, with a sum insured of THB 300,000 and a premium of THB 9,600 per year (an average of THB 800 a month = 9,600 ÷ 12)
- You hit a post in a car park with no other party involved, and the repair costs THB 25,000
- You pay the excess of THB 5,000 yourself
- The insurer would consider paying 25,000 − 5,000 = THB 20,000
- If another car hits you from behind and the other party is at fault, the THB 5,000 excess does not apply.
This example is for illustration only. The amount actually paid depends on the insurer's claim assessment. The rule of thumb: the excess is paid when you are at fault or the other party cannot be found.
Who is Class 1 Khum Khrong Khum Kha for?
- Owners of private saloons or pickups of up to 7 seats, with a car aged 2–10 years
- People who drive carefully and can accept an excess of THB 5,000 in exchange for a lower premium
- People who want to renew Class 1 without booking a vehicle inspection
- Owners of popular Group C models such as the Vios, City and D-Max who want Class 1 for under ten thousand baht
Who should not buy this plan yet?
- People who don't want to pay an excess: this plan has an excess of THB 5,000 when you are at fault or there is no other party
- Cars under 2 years old or over 10 years old: see Viriyah Class 1 First Loss insurance, which accepts cars up to 20 years old
- Cars used for hire or rental: this plan accepts privately used cars only
- Cars worth more than the sum insured in the table: the sum insured is set by vehicle group and car age, up to THB 1,000,000
- People who want to choose their own sum insured based on the car's price: this plan sets a fixed sum insured by car age
Limits to check before you decide
- Excess of THB 5,000 if you are at fault or there is no other party
- The sum insured is set by the car's age, e.g. Group C aged 8–10 years has a sum insured of THB 200,000. If the car's market price is higher, the difference is not covered
- The car models listed under each group are examples only. The group actually used follows the insurer's own grouping
- The other party must be a land vehicle, driven by an engine or electric power, including trailers, trains and trams, to count as having another party
- The premiums in the table are voluntary motor insurance premiums. The quote will show CMI as a separate item
