Drone insurance (agricultural use)
Bangkok Insurance agricultural drone insurance, premium from THB 2,500 per year
A drone may be worth hundreds of thousands of baht, but the risk isn't only to the drone itself
Agricultural drones cut labour, speed up the work and make farm management more efficient. But when a drone costs anything from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of baht, a single accident can hit both the owner's costs and other people.
So there are at least 2 kinds of risk
Your drone is damaged
and
Your drone causes damage to other people or their property
That is why agricultural drone insurance from Bangkok Insurance Public Company Limited offers both plans that focus on third-party liability and plans that add cover for damage to the drone itself, subject to each plan's conditions.
Bangkok Insurance officially states that it has drone insurance products for both agricultural drones and photography drones, which can cover the drone itself and/or legal liability to third parties, depending on the plan chosen.
Key features of agricultural drone insurance
Premium from THB 2,500 per year per drone
The entry plan focuses on legal liability to third parties, with a total limit of up to THB 1,000,000 under the policy conditions
Optional cover for the drone itself up to THB 400,000
For plans that cover the drone itself, you can choose a limit based on the purchase price, up to the plan maximum of THB 200,000 / 300,000 / 400,000
Third-party liability cover
Total limit of up to THB 1,000,000 for the period of insurance for qualifying legal liability, such as
- Death or total permanent disability of a third party
- Bodily injury or illness of a third party
- Damage to third-party property
- Legal defence costs, subject to conditions and with the insurer's consent as the policy requires
Period of cover: 1 year
The territorial limit is Thailand, and the drone must be used in line with the relevant laws and conditions
Agricultural drone insurance plans
| Coverage | Plan 1 | Plan 2 | Plan 3 | Plan 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Damage to the drone | – | Up to the purchase price, maximum THB 200,000 | Up to the purchase price, maximum THB 300,000 | Up to the purchase price, maximum THB 400,000 |
| Third-party liability | THB 1,000,000 | THB 1,000,000 | THB 1,000,000 | THB 1,000,000 |
| Cameras and equipment as specified in the policy* | – | Subject to conditions | Subject to conditions | Subject to conditions |
*Extension of cover to cameras and equipment is subject to the items specified in the policy and the plan's conditions
Agricultural drone insurance premiums
Drones up to 3 years old
| Plan | Annual premium (incl. stamp duty and tax) |
|---|---|
| Plan 1 | THB 2,500 |
| Plan 2 | THB 12,000 |
| Plan 3 | THB 16,000 |
| Plan 4 | THB 20,000 |
Drones aged 3–5 years
| Plan | Annual premium (incl. stamp duty and tax) |
|---|---|
| Plan 1 | THB 2,500 |
| Plan 2 | THB 13,000 |
| Plan 3 | THB 17,000 |
| Plan 4 | THB 21,500 |
So “premium from THB 2,500” refers to the entry plan that focuses on third-party liability. It does not mean a THB 2,500 premium also covers damage to the drone up to THB 400,000.
This is something to understand before you compare prices.
How does Plan 1 differ from Plans 2–4?
If your main need is third-party liability cover, Plan 1 is the entry plan to consider.
But if your drone is valuable and you also want cover for damage to the drone itself, consider Plans 2–4 according to the drone's purchase price and the underwriting conditions.
For example, for a drone costing about THB 250,000, a plan that covers the drone for only THB 200,000 may not meet your needs as well as a plan with a higher limit.
Don't choose a plan on premium alone. Look at the drone's value and what you want covered together.
Is there an excess (deductible)?
Yes, for damage to the drone, according to the product information Prakanthai.com has received
Drones up to 3 years old
Excess THB 5,000 per accident
Drones aged 3–5 years
Excess 10% of the drone's sum insured, or a minimum of THB 5,000 per accident
For third-party liability, the product document states there is no excess
So before choosing a plan that covers the drone itself, factor in the excess too, not just the sum insured and the premium.
Important for agricultural drones: chemical damage is not covered in every case
This is something Prakanthai.com wants buyers to know before they decide
The exclusions of the product we received mention chemicals or any substances released from the unmanned aircraft
So you should not assume that
“Once my agricultural drone is insured, all damage from the chemicals it sprays will be covered”
Liability or damage involving chemicals and anything released from the drone must be assessed carefully against the terms and exclusions in the policy.
If you run a drone spraying service, or your chemical risk is high, state clearly how the drone is used and check the cover before you buy.
Which drones can be insured?
Under the product conditions Prakanthai.com has received, the main criteria include
- Drones up to 5 years old are accepted
- Period of cover 1 year
- Territorial limit Thailand
- The insured and the drone pilot must comply with the laws and regulations on the use of unmanned aircraft
- The drone must meet the insurer's underwriting criteria
- There are requirements on loss or claims history before the insurance is taken out
Agricultural drones are accepted under the insurer's underwriting criteria. Please send the model, age, purchase price and usage details so they can be checked before you buy.
In 2026, can I fly my drone as soon as it's insured?
No
An insurance policy is a separate matter from permission to fly
CAAT currently uses the UAS Portal for drone registration and related permits, and the criteria vary by drone weight, type of use, area and type of flight operation
CAAT's guidance on flying agricultural drones also sets out steps for registering the pilot and the drone, holding third-party insurance that meets the criteria, preparing documents and risk assessments, and applying for permission through the UAS Portal where applicable
In 2026 there are also flight restrictions in some areas related to security along the Thai–Cambodian border. CAAT's Announcement No. 16 of 25 June 2026 keeps specific conditions in certain areas, although agricultural work may be considered for permission case by case.
So always check the latest rules and area status with CAAT before you fly.
Why does third-party insurance matter for drones?
When people talk about drone insurance, most think of the question
“If my drone crashes, will the insurer pay for the drone?”
But in terms of risk, an equally important question is
“If my drone falls on a car, a house, property or another person, who is liable?”
That is why third-party liability is a key part of drone insurance, and CAAT itself stresses having a policy in force for flight operations, according to the relevant type and conditions.
However, this product's THB 1,000,000 limit should not automatically be taken as meeting every requirement for drones of every weight and every type of operation. Check the CAAT requirements that apply to your drone first.
Documents to prepare for the insurance
According to the product information, the documents are
1. Drone insurance application form
2. Proof of identity of the insured
Individuals use the identity documents the insurer requires
Juristic persons use a certificate of juristic person registration and related documents
3. Drone pilot documents
For each pilot declared
4. Photos of the drone
Include photos of the drone itself and one that clearly shows the Serial Number
5. Proof of purchase price
Such as a receipt or other proof of purchase, as the insurer requires
The Prakanthai.com team can help with an initial check of the list before it goes to the insurer for consideration.
Who is agricultural drone insurance for?
This product is worth considering for
Farmers who own their own drone
Because the drone is valuable and downtime can affect your work
Businesses offering agricultural drone flying services
Because the risk isn't limited to your own property; it also involves the area and third parties
Farmer groups, community enterprises or agricultural companies
That have several drones and want to manage risk systematically
However, the actual type of use should be disclosed to the insurer in full, as it affects the underwriting decision.
Does Bangkok Insurance have experience in drone insurance?
Bangkok Insurance has Aviation Insurance products and lists drone insurance among them, covering both agricultural and photography drones.
The insurer has also announced a partnership with DJI and Peak3 to provide cover for DJI T25 and T50 agricultural drones, which shows that it develops products specifically for the agricultural drone market.
Before you buy, Prakanthai.com recommends checking 6 things
Don't choose drone insurance on “from THB 2,500” alone
Check all of these together
Whether you want cover for third parties only, or for the drone as well
The drone's purchase price and age
Whether the sum insured matches the drone's value
How much the excess is
What exclusions apply to your type of use, especially chemical use
and
Whether the chosen policy/limit meets CAAT's requirements for operating your drone
That is why Prakanthai.com doesn't want to sell drone insurance on price alone, but wants buyers to understand which risks the policy covers and which it doesn't.
Let Prakanthai.com check your drone insurance before you decide
If you have an agricultural drone and want to check which plan suits it, send the details to the Prakanthai.com team for an initial check.
We suggest preparing
Drone make and model
Drone weight
Year of purchase / age of the drone
Purchase price
Serial Number
Type of use
Previous loss or claims history
So we can check the underwriting conditions, sum insured, excess and the right plan

Note: Buyers should understand the details of the cover, conditions, exclusions and excess before deciding to buy insurance. Underwriting and claim payments are subject to the policy and the insurer's criteria. Having an insurance policy does not replace registration, flight permission, or compliance with the laws and announcements of the relevant authorities. Users should check the CAAT/UAS Portal requirements in force on the date of the flight.
Agricultural drone insurance FAQ
How much does agricultural drone insurance cost?
Based on the plans Prakanthai.com has information on, premiums start at THB 2,500 per year per drone for the third-party liability plan. Plans that cover the drone itself cost more, depending on the sum insured and the drone's age.
Does the THB 2,500 premium cover the drone itself?
Not under this plan. The THB 2,500 entry plan focuses on third-party liability. If you want cover for damage to the drone itself, consider Plans 2–4, subject to conditions.
What is the maximum cover for the drone itself?
Plans that cover the drone accept a purchase price of up to THB 400,000 under the plan. If your drone is worth more than this, ask us so the insurer can consider it case by case.
Can a 5-year-old drone be insured?
According to the product information, drones up to 5 years old are accepted, but this still depends on the underwriting criteria and the drone's history.
If I use my drone to spray chemicals, is chemical damage covered?
Don't assume it is covered automatically, because the product document has exclusions relating to chemicals or substances released from the drone. Check the policy and state clearly what work you do before you buy.
Once I've bought the insurance, can I fly my drone straight away?
Not automatically. Flying a drone must comply with the rules of CAAT and other relevant authorities, including registration and permits based on weight, type of work and operating area through the UAS Portal where applicable.
