Premiums from THB 150 per trip of 1–3 days with 3 plans, and annual cover at THB 1,020–3,340, including stamp duty
Highlights: Covers medical expenses for diving-related illnesses such as decompression sickness (DCS), with maximum limits of THB 500,000–2,000,000
You book a three-day, two-night trip to Koh Tao and dive three times a day. On the last night your joints start to ache and your fingertips go numb, and you have to be sent to a decompression chamber. The treatment and transfer cost many times the price of the trip.
Diver insurance costs a few hundred baht a trip. How much does it cover for this, and do you need a diving certification card?
Diver insurance in Thailand: who is it for, and how much does it cost?
In short: Bangkok Insurance's diver insurance suits people aged 10–70 who dive in Thailand with a licensed tour operator. It covers accidents of THB 500,000–1,000,000, treatment of diving-related illnesses of THB 500,000–2,000,000, emergency evacuation and diving equipment. Premiums start at THB 150 per trip of 1–3 days (data as at 14 October 2026). Plans 2 and 3 require a diving certification card.

| Treatment of diving-related illnesses (DCS, AGE, POIS) | 500,000 / 1,000,000 / 2,000,000 |
| Treatment of travel-related illnesses | – / – / 2,000 |

What counts as diving equipment under the policy?
Dive mask, air tank, underwater breathing apparatus (regulator), fins, dive suit, Dive Computer, diver's buoyancy vest (BCD), weight belt, compass and dive torch. Items not on this list, such as an underwater camera, do not count as diving equipment in this category.
How much is diver insurance?
Premiums from THB 150, data as at 14 October 2026, including stamp duty. The actual premium depends on the plan and the number of days of travel.
| Trip duration | Plan 1 / Plan 2 / Plan 3 (THB) |
|---|---|
| 1–3 days | 150 / 300 / 500 |
| 4–7 days | 310 / 610 / 1,000 |
| 8–14 days | 390 / 770 / 1,270 |
| 15–30 days | 620 / 1,230 / 2,040 |
| Annual (up to 30 days per trip) | 1,020 / 2,020 / 3,340 |
Worked example: if you go diving on 4 trips a year, 5 days each, is single-trip or annual cover better value?
- Plan 2, single trip of 4–7 days: 610 × 4 = THB 2,440
- Plan 2, annual: THB 2,020, which saves THB 420 (2,440 − 2,020)
- If you go on only 3 trips: 610 × 3 = THB 1,830, so single-trip cover is THB 190 cheaper than annual
This example is for illustration only. A simple rule for Plan 2: if you take dive trips of 4–7 days 4 or more times a year, annual cover starts to be better value.
Who is diver insurance for?
- People going on scuba diving trips in Thailand, such as Koh Tao, the Similan Islands or Koh Lanta, with a licensed tour operator
- Divers who hold a WRSTC-standard certification card and carry expensive personal equipment (Plan 2 or 3)
- People who dive on many trips a year (annual cover)
- People who have paid for their programme in advance and worry about the trip being cancelled (Plan 3)
Who should not buy this plan yet?
- People diving abroad: this product is made for dive programmes in Thailand
- People without a diving card who want Plan 2 or 3: these two plans require a card to the WRSTC standard. If you don't have a card yet, you can buy only Plan 1
- People who dive on their own, not through a licensed tour operator: the conditions require you to join a programme run by a tour operator licensed to operate diving activities
- People who don't use a Dive Computer on every dive, or who often dive beyond their card level: Plans 2 and 3 require a Dive Computer every time, and you must not exceed the depth or time your card allows
- People under 10 or over 70 years old
Limits to check before you decide
- A Dive Computer carries an excess (deductible) of THB 5,000 per claim under personal diving equipment
- Plan 1 does not cover personal equipment; it covers rented equipment only, at THB 2,000
- Diving-related illnesses means 3 groups, DCS, AGE and POIS, as diagnosed by a doctor; not every symptom that appears after diving
- Travel-related illnesses are covered only on Plan 3, with a limit of THB 2,000, such as gastrointestinal illness, influenza, dengue fever, heatstroke and conjunctivitis
- Only 1 policy can be issued per trip, and annual cover covers up to 30 days per trip
- Age is counted by rounding up: an age of 70 years 3 months counts as 71, which exceeds the underwriting limit
If you are going diving abroad, see Bangkok Insurance overseas travel insurance, and check the diving-activity conditions in the policy before you buy
If you want accident insurance that covers the whole year, not just dive trips, see Happy PA accident insurance

Frequently asked questions
I'm learning to dive for the first time and don't have a card yet. Can I buy this?
You can buy Plan 1. Plans 2 and 3 require a diving card certified to the WRSTC standard, such as PADI, SSI or NAUI.
If I lose a Dive Computer in the water, how much can I claim?
It falls under personal equipment on Plans 2 and 3 and carries an excess (deductible) of THB 5,000 per claim. The part above THB 5,000 is paid up to the plan's limit and depends on the cause, under the policy conditions.
If a storm comes and the dive boat doesn't go out, do I get compensation?
Plan 3 pays THB 1,000 per day, up to 3 days per trip, when dive days are lost because the tour operator cancels. Plans 1 and 2 do not have this cover.
I'm taking my 12-year-old child diving with me. Can I insure them?
Yes. The product accepts ages 10–70. If your child holds a diving card to the standard, they can choose Plan 2 or 3.
