Cyber insurance: online theft of money and goods not received, from THB 200
Premium data as of 14 October 2026 · compiled by Prakanthai.com
Underwritten by Bangkok Insurance Public Company Limited
Premiums from THB 200 per year. There are 3 plans, at THB 200 / 500 / 1,150, including VAT and stamp duty
Highlights: covers money stolen online and goods bought online but not received. Plan 3 also covers sellers who ship goods but are not paid.
You get an SMS about a parcel held at the depot, tap the link and fill in your details, and a few minutes later tens of thousands of baht have vanished from your banking app. Or you transfer the payment for a bag to a shop on social media, and the shop closes its page and disappears.
How much can cyber insurance costing a few hundred baht a year help with these situations, and which cases does it not pay?
Who is cyber insurance for, and how much does it cost?
In short: Bangkok Insurance's cyber insurance suits people who use mobile banking and regularly buy or sell online. It covers money stolen through stolen personal data or phishing up to THB 20,000–100,000, goods bought but not received THB 5,000–30,000, and online extortion or bullying. Premiums start at THB 200 per year (as at 14 October 2026). It does not cover every case where you are tricked into transferring money.
What does cyber insurance cover?
Maximum limit per policy year (THB), paying the actual loss up to the limit
| Coverage | Plan 1 / Plan 2 / Plan 3 |
|---|---|
| Money stolen through personal data theft (Identity Theft) or Phishing | 20,000 / 50,000 / 100,000 |
| Online extortion (Cyber Extortion) | 5,000, all plans |
| Online bullying (Cyber Bullying): legal defence costs and psychological treatment costs | 5,000, all plans |
| Goods bought online but not received (Online Shopping) | 5,000 / 15,000 / 30,000 |
| Goods sold online but payment not received (Online Sales) | Not covered / Not covered / 30,000 |
| Annual premium incl. tax and duty | 200 / 500 / 1,150 |
How much does cyber insurance cost, and which plan should you choose?
Premiums from THB 200 per year, as at 14 October 2026. The premium for each plan is the price announced by the insurer and varies with the plan's cover limits, and the insurer reserves the right to change its conditions.
Worked example: you transfer THB 12,000 for a mobile phone and the shop never ships it
- Plan 1 (THB 200): the online shopping limit is THB 5,000, so you receive up to THB 5,000 and have to bear the remaining THB 7,000 (12,000 − 5,000) yourself
- Plan 2 (THB 500): the THB 15,000 limit covers the whole THB 12,000
- The premium difference is THB 300 per year (500 − 200), or THB 25 a month on average
This example is for illustration only. It applies when the event meets the conditions, for example the shop does not ship within 30 days of the date it said it would, and you cannot get your money back through other channels. The amount actually paid depends on the insurer's assessment.
A simple way to choose: if you only use a banking app, Plan 1 is enough as a basic cover. If you often buy items costing more than THB 5,000 each, look at Plan 2. If you both buy and sell, Plan 3 is the only plan that covers the selling side.
Who is cyber insurance for?
- People who keep money in an account linked to mobile banking and worry about fake links
- People who regularly buy through social media or from shops that are not on the large platforms
- Online sellers who ship goods before they are paid (Plan 3)
- Parents who want to buy it for teenagers aged 15 or over who spend a lot of time online
Who should not buy this plan yet?
- People who want cover for every way of being tricked into transferring money themselves, such as a call-centre gang threatening you into transferring, or an investment scam. This policy covers money stolen through stolen data or phishing, not every decision to transfer money to someone else.
- People who mainly buy digital goods, tickets or gift cards: the insurer states that these goods are outside the online shopping cover
- People worried about goods that don't match the listing or are damaged in transit: this cover pays when goods are not received, not when the wrong goods arrive
- People with hundreds of thousands of baht in their main account who want a higher limit: the maximum theft limit is THB 100,000, and you can only have 1 policy per person
- Foreigners, or Thai people living abroad, since only Thai nationals living in Thailand are accepted
Limits to check before you decide
- For goods not received, you must wait the full 30 days from the date the shop said it would ship. On the selling side, you must not have been paid within 30 days of the date you shipped the goods.
- It pays only the part you cannot recover elsewhere: if the bank, a platform or the shop refunds part of the money, the insurance will not pay that part again
- Having your data stolen without losing money does not mean you will receive a claim payment under the theft of money section
- Online bullying must involve publication: being insulted in a private chat that no one else can see does not yet meet the criteria for reputational damage as the insurer explains them
- One policy per person, covering 1 year, and the event must occur within the period of cover
- A claim needs a certified copy of the police report, so you should report it to the police every time something happens
If you want low-cost accident cover too, see Accident insurance at THB 159 per year, income compensation of THB 200 per day
What should you do first after an incident?
- Change your passwords, sign out on all devices, and call your bank to freeze your account or card immediately
- Keep the evidence before deleting anything, such as screenshots, links, chat messages, account statements and transfer slips
- Report it to the police and ask for a certified copy of the police report
- Notify Bangkok Insurance. During business hours, call +66 2 285 8888 and press 3 then 6. Outside business hours, call 1620.

Frequently asked questions
If a call-centre gang tricks me into transferring money, does cyber insurance pay?
Not in every case. The policy covers money stolen through the theft of personal data or phishing, for example you enter your details on a fake website and the criminal withdraws your money. Where you are threatened or tricked into transferring the money yourself, the insurer decides based on the facts of each incident. If you are worried about a particular case, ask our team before you buy.
If I'm cheated when buying concert tickets online, can I claim?
Not under the online shopping section. The insurer states that tickets, digital goods and gift cards are not covered by this cover.
If I buy today, are incidents that happened yesterday covered?
No. The policy does not cover loss that does not occur during the period of insurance. The incident must occur after the start date of cover shown in the policy schedule.
Can I buy it for my 15-year-old child?
Yes. This plan accepts ages 15–100, of Thai nationality and living in Thailand.
The bank has already refunded part of the money. Can I still claim the rest?
The insurer compensates only loss that cannot be recovered from the party responsible or any other source, so it considers only the part that is still missing, and not more than the plan's limit.
What documents do I need to make a claim?
The claim form, a copy of your national ID card, a certified copy of the police report and a copy of the bank book page for receiving payment. The insurer may ask for further evidence, such as account statements, screenshots or the order.
