Starting premium THB 2,622 for 90 days and THB 4,277 for 180 days
Highlight: short-term Class 2+ insurance for 90 or 180 days, accepting cars up to 25 years old, with a sum insured of THB 100,000 for the car and for theft and fire

An old car that is used only for a short time, such as while waiting to be sold or only during the school holidays. Insuring it for a whole year means paying for more than you use, but leaving it uninsured is worrying.

MSIG's Class 2+ Safe Guard can be bought for 90 or 180 days. What does it cover, how much is the premium, and which cars does the insurer not accept?

Short-term Class 2+ MSIG Safe Guard: who is it for and how much is the premium?

In short: Short-term Class 2+ MSIG Safe Guard suits privately used saloon cars and pickups up to 25 years old whose owners want insurance for just 90 or 180 days. It covers the car in a collision with a land vehicle where the other party can be identified up to THB 100,000, theft and fire up to THB 100,000, and third-party property up to THB 1,000,000, with garage repair at the insurer's network garages. Premiums start at THB 2,622 for 90 days with an excess (data as at 15 Oct 2026). The actual premium depends on the period and the excess option you choose.

Class 2+ MSIG Safe Guard: how much is the premium?

TermWith an excess (deductible) of THB 2,000No excess (deductible)
90 days2,6222,737
180 days4,2774,464

Data as at 15 October 2026. The excess of THB 2,000 applies only when the car collides with a land vehicle and the driver is at fault. The actual premium depends on the period, the vehicle type and the insurer's underwriting decision. The total including CMI is as stated in the quote.

Worked example: two 90-day periods or one 180-day period

  • 90 days with an excess, twice: 2,622 × 2 = THB 5,244
  • 180 days in one go: THB 4,277, which is lower by 5,244 − 4,277 = THB 967
  • Choosing 90 days without an excess costs 2,737 − 2,622 = THB 115 more
  • If you are at fault in a collision with another car and the repairs to your car cost THB 30,000, with the excess option you pay THB 2,000 yourself, and the remaining THB 28,000 is within the THB 100,000 limit for the car

This example is for illustration only. The amount actually paid depends on the damage assessment and the policy conditions.

Is a sum insured of THB 100,000 enough for an old car?

For an older car whose market value has fallen to a few hundred thousand baht, a limit of THB 100,000 covers the repair cost in many collisions with another party, such as a bumper, headlight, door or bonnet. But if the whole car is lost, you receive the sum insured of THB 100,000, not the market value.

If the car is still worth much more than the sum insured and you use it all year, compare it with the annual Class 2+ plans, where you can choose the sum insured to match the car's value. This short-term plan suits periods of limited use better.

Who is Class 2+ MSIG Safe Guard for?

  • Owners of older cars up to 25 years old who use the car only for a short period or are about to sell it
  • People who don't want to pay for a whole year of insurance in one lump sum
  • Owners of cars worth THB 100,000 or more who want theft and fire cover
  • Careful drivers who can accept an excess of THB 2,000 in return for a lower premium

Who should not buy this plan yet?

  • Owners of Audi, Benz, BMW, Volkswagen, Volvo or Chevrolet cars, imported cars and sports cars: this plan does not accept them
  • Passenger vans of every kind and cars registered to a legal entity
  • Pickups fitted with a roof frame, steel frame or box body, or used to transport goods
  • Cars worth less than THB 100,000, because the car's value must be no less than the sum insured
  • People who use the car all year and want a sum insured that matches the car's value: see 2+ Chubb Eco insurance for cars up to 25 years old

Limits to check before you decide

  1. The sum insured for the car, and for theft and fire, is fixed at THB 100,000, even if the car is worth more
  2. The car is covered only in a collision with a land vehicle where the other party is identified
  3. With the excess option, you pay THB 2,000 yourself when the car collides with a land vehicle and you are at fault
  4. Personal accident and medical expenses of THB 50,000 per person, covering 5 people
  5. Cover ends after 90 or 180 days. You should plan to renew before the expiry date.
