Premium from THB 222 per year, including stamp duty
Key feature: accident insurance for a three-figure premium, with THB 100,000 of accident cover and THB 5,000 for accident medical expenses
You slip in the bathroom and cut your head badly enough to need stitches. Wound care and an X-ray at a clinic cost several thousand, and you have no insurance at all apart from the gold card (Universal Coverage Scheme), which means going to your designated hospital.
How much can accident insurance costing under THB 300 a year help, and what should you know before you buy?
Accident insurance 222: who is it for, and what does it cover?
In short: Bangkok Insurance's Accident insurance 222 suits Thai nationals aged 20–60 who want basic accident insurance on a small budget. It covers death, loss of hands, feet or sight, or permanent disability from an accident up to THB 100,000 (THB 50,000 for murder, assault, or riding or riding pillion on a motorcycle), accident medical expenses at actual cost up to THB 5,000, and THB 5,000 towards funeral expenses for death from illness. Premiums start at THB 222 per year (as at 14 October 2026).
What does Accident insurance 222 cover?
| Coverage | Limit (THB per policy year) | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Death, loss of hands, feet or sight, or total permanent disability from an accident | 100,000 | Excluding murder, assault and riding or riding pillion on a motorcycle |
| The same, from murder, assault, or riding or riding pillion on a motorcycle | 50,000 | – |
| Medical expenses from an accident | 5,000 | Actual cost |
| Funeral expenses for death from illness | 5,000 | 120-day waiting period |
How much is the premium for Accident insurance 222?
The premium is from THB 222 per year, including stamp duty (as at 14 October 2026), for 1 year of cover. The actual premium is as stated in the quote and subject to the insurer's underwriting decision.
Worked example: how much cover do you get in total with 2 policies?
Each person can buy at most 2 policies of this plan. Suppose you buy 2.
- Total premium 222 × 2 = THB 444 per year, or about THB 37 a month on average (444 ÷ 12)
- General accidents: 100,000 × 2 = THB 200,000
- Accident medical expenses: 5,000 × 2 = THB 10,000
This example is for illustration only. The amount actually paid depends on the insurer's claim assessment under the policy conditions. The rule of thumb: this plan is basic cover, not your main medical insurance.
Who is Accident insurance 222 for?
- Thai nationals aged 20–60 who have no accident insurance at all yet
- People who want cover for the medical costs of minor accidents, such as a fall, a graze or a cut that needs stitches
- People who want to buy cover for their parents or employees on a low budget
Who should not buy this plan yet?
- People who ride a motorcycle, or ride pillion, every day and are counting on the THB 100,000 sum insured: a motorcycle accident pays THB 50,000
- People who want income compensation while in hospital: see Accident insurance 159, which pays a daily benefit
- People who want an accident sum insured in the hundreds of thousands or millions: see Happy PA accident insurance
- Anyone under 20 or over 60, or who is not a Thai national
Limits to check before you decide
- Accident medical expenses are capped at THB 5,000, and exclude private nurses, braces and supports (except crutches), wheelchairs, external prostheses, alternative medicine and acupuncture
- Murder, assault, or riding or riding pillion on a motorcycle pays half, that is THB 50,000
- Funeral expenses for death from illness have a 120-day waiting period
- Limited to 2 policies per person
How do Accident insurance 222, 159 and Happy PA differ?
| Plan | Premium from / accident sum insured | Key difference |
|---|---|---|
| Accident 159 | THB 159 / THB 100,000 | Income compensation of THB 200 per day, no medical expenses |
| Accident 222 | THB 222 / THB 100,000 | Accident medical expenses of THB 5,000, no daily benefit |
| Happy PA | THB 770 / THB 500,000–3,000,000 | High sum insured, includes motorcycle riding and assault, with the option of medical expenses at 10% of the sum insured |
The first two plans accept Thai nationals aged 20–60 and pay half the sum insured for riding or riding pillion on a motorcycle. Happy PA accepts ages 16–60, only for occupations based mainly in an office. If you still can't decide, work out whether you need medical expenses, compensation when you can't work, or a large lump sum for your family, then choose the plan that meets that need.
